Description

About Viña Pedrosa La Navilla

Bodegas Hnos. Pérez Pascuas (Viña Pedrosa) is one of the founding fathers and benchmark pillars of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, committed to family-run, artisanal estate winemaking since 1980.

Pago La Navilla is the family’s prized single vineyard situated on a high plateau at 844 meters in Pedrosa de Duero. The vineyard is sheltered by an encircling pine forest that creates a protective, unique microclimate. Unlike other cuvées from the winery that utilize mixed oak, La Navilla is aged exclusively in 100% French oak barrels from the forest of Allier for 20 months to highlight elegance, floral nuances, and silky tannin texture. The 2019 growing season was officially rated “Excelente,” yielding exceptional fruit concentration, towering structure, and multi-decade cellar aging potential.

Climate & Overall Wine Profile

  • Colour: Deep cherry-red to near-opaque black (high robe) with violet-garnet glints, brilliant clarity, and slow viscous tears.

  • Aroma: Deep, pristine, and stately. Intense ripe black fruits, cassis, wild blueberries, balsamic herbs, pine resin, licorice, dark cocoa, and crushed stone minerality.

  • Palate: Expansive, muscular, and full-bodied with a fleshy core. Tannins are robust yet velvety and refined. Crisp mountain acidity provides tension, driving through to an exceptionally persistent finish.

Tasting notes

2019

Intense, near-opaque deep cherry-garnet robe. The aromatics are profound, noble, and multi-layered, showing ripe blackcurrants, wild blackberries, and dark plums framed by refined Allier French oak notes: balsamic nuances, licorice, clove, bitter cocoa, dried violets, and crushed stone minerality. Broad, authoritative, and muscular on the palate, with a fleshy and concentrated mid-palate. Tannins are substantial yet remarkably fine-grained and satiny. Exceptional natural acidity drives a harmonious progression into an enduring, aristocratically structured finish.

2018

A cooler, Atlantic-influenced vintage defined by precision, tension, and floral lift. The nose features vibrant dark cherries, wild raspberries, pine forest resin, and cedarwood. Fluid and chiseled on the palate, framed by delicate, silky tannins and brilliant high-altitude acidity, culminating in a clean, persistent, and savory finish.

2017

A challenging, low-yield vintage characterized by exceptional concentration and warmth. It displays dense blackberry compote, wild herbs, black licorice, smoke, and roasted coffee. The palate is broad, muscular, and fleshy with sweet, powerful tannins and a warm, persistent finish.

2016

A legendary, benchmark vintage. Impeccably balanced with layered notes of cassis, wild bilberries, pipe tobacco, fine leather, and the distinct pine needle and balsamic scent characteristic of the La Navilla terroir. Seamless and velvety on the palate, with sculpted, noble tannins and vibrant freshness leading into an extraordinarily long, aristocratic finish.

2015

A warm and generous harvest showing opulent fruit profile. Aromas of baked plums, ripe blackberries, vanilla, dark cocoa, and sweet baking spices. Rich, enveloping, and hedonistic on the palate, supported by melted, sweet tannins and a lengthy, toasted oak finish.

2014

A classic, austere expression exhibiting savory depth. Complex bouquet of dark berries, crushed violets, dried spices, cured leather, and chalky earth. Structured and precise on entry, backed by chiseled tannins and steady acidity that guarantees remarkable longevity.
