About Vega Sicilia Pintia 2021
The 2021 vintage of Pintia is heralded by the winemaking team at TEMPOS Vega Sicilia and international wine critics alike as one of the finest, most precise, and well-tempered expressions ever crafted in the history of Bodegas Pintia.
The growing season in 2021 was defined by cooler average temperatures across the D.O. Toro, with evenly distributed rainfall and timely moisture in September that slowed down maturation and prevented the rapid overripening typical of the region. This allowed the estate’s old-vine Tinta de Toro (averaging 35–40 years old, with nearly two-thirds ungrafted pie franco vines) to achieve complete phenolic ripeness while preserving vital natural acidity and tension, bestowing the wine with an unprecedented “vertical” precision and aromatic freshness.
Harvested by hand in 12-kg crates and chilled for 12 hours prior to double-table sorting, the fruit underwent a 5-day cold soak in wooden vats. Fermentation and gentle extraction were calibrated toward finesse rather than sheer power. The wine was aged in selected French (75%) and American (25%) oak barrels, resulting in a monumental Toro red (15% ABV) that seamlessly harmonizes raw power with chalky, refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and an extraordinary cellar longevity extending well beyond 2040.
